On August 20th 2025 the Texas state house passed a set of congressional maps protested by the states democrat lawmakers which aimed to increase the quantity of competitive republican districts for the 2026 midterms. ^[1] The vote was split directly on party lines 88y - 52n (republicans to democrats). ^[1]

After passing the state house the bill then passed the state senate on the 23rd of August and was eventually signed into law on August 29th by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. ^{[2] [3]}
