An atomic orbital is the function describing the location and wave-like behaviour of an electron in an atom. Each atomic orbital in an atom is characterized by a set of three quantum numbers (, , and ). Each orbital can be occupied by at most 2 electrons each with it's own distinct spin value (which is either or ).
