A statement is a sentence that is true or false but not both. For example the sentences "two plus two equals four" and "two plus two equals five" are both statements because the first is true and the second is false but neither are both. Alternatively the statement "he is in college" is not a statement because it can be either true or false depending on the "he" which is being discussed, similarly is not a statement because for different values of and it can be true or false.
