A homogeneous system is any linear system where all the constants (the numbers without parameters) on the right side are 0. Every homogeneous system must have one solution called the trivial solution.

For a homogeneous system to have a non-trivial solution (one where at least one of the parameters is non-zero) it must have at least 1 free variable.
