Special relativity is a theory on the relationship between space and time.

Postulates

1. The laws of physics take the same form in all inertial frames of reference.
2. The speed of light in a vacuum has the same value in all inertial frames of reference.

There are additional assumptions needed to derive the Lorentz transformation but these 2 are usually use as the starting point for special relativity.
