The divergence test is a method for determining whether or not a series diverges. Formally it can be defined as:

Given a series defined in terms of a infinite sequence , if , the sequence defined as diverges. Alternatively if then the test is inconclusive and another strategy must be used.

Notice how this test says nothing about whether or not a sequence converges this test can only state whether or not a series diverges.
