Monomial

A monomial is roughly any polynomial with only 1 term. Formally this can be said to be any multiplication of variables raised to a power and multiplied by a constant (called the coefficient).

Examples

Coefficient

The coefficient of a monomial is the number by which the variables are to be multiplied.

Examples

  1. In the coefficient of is .
  2. In the coefficient is simply .
  3. In the coefficient is even though it's not written

Degree

The degree of a monomial is the sum of the exponents of each variable.

Examples

  1. has a degree of .
  2. has a degree of ().
  3. has a degree of ().
